I got a lot of comments this week on my recent weight loss post asking me how I've been losing weight. The simple answer is: a LOT of hard work, both mentally AND physically. I've read tons of books on dieting and tried plenty of different exercise DVDs over the years and I have combined several tricks and tips from each of those to make a plan that works for me.
The first month I went on a very strict diet. I did give myself a few cheat days, but 90% of the time I cut out: potatoes, pasta, rice, desserts, red meat, alcohol, soft drinks, sweet tea, etc. I ate tons of fruit, veggies, whole grains and lean meat. I drank only plain water or cranberry water. (Cranberry water helps get rid of bloating. Just add about an ounce of unsweeted cranberry juice to each glass of water) I also did an hour of cardio every single day. I lost 13 pounds that first month.
Of course, me being me, I knew I couldn't stick to such a strict diet and exercise routine for long. Now I'm just trying to work on portion control and adding more fruit & veggies to my diet. I try to work out 5 days a week. I love to go to the gym and get on the treadmill, but since my husband is deployed that is not an option for me right now. So, I go for a 2 mile walk daily. I also try to do a workout DVD 3 days a week. These are my favorite workout DVDs:

So what are your tips & tricks for losing weight and staying healthy?

Portion control and eating small, healthy snacks throughout the day. I also try to walk/run a few times a week. and breatfeeding sure has helped! too bad i can't rely on that forever :)

Thanks for the cranberry water tip, can't wait to try it.
You are doing an awesome job with your weight loss!! My son is 4 months old and I just lost about 20lbs and am right where I should be. I just really watch portions and try to exercise 5x a week. I also let myself have splurge meals b/c I like to eat ;) And every day I have a little dessert :)
Thank you for sharing that information with us.
Hoping over from SITS. I lost 45 lbs with Weight Watchers. Keep it up - you sound like you have a great plan.

Wow! Good for you! That is awesome that you have found what works for you. It is different for everyone, but for the most part it is all about portion control and exercise.
I have given up trying to loose my last 15 pounds until I am done breastfeeding. My body just does not want to give up it's fat store no matter what I do. No big deal. In a few months I will start my weight loss journey AGAIN. ;)
your doing great...my only tip is avoid eating after 7 and i gave up pop! lots of water for me..don't do the extra snacking, and if i do need a little something..i pick up fruit or veges to snack on! Congrats!
Great job keeping at it - especially when you are running the show at home. Very impressive!
Great job on the loss!! It is not an easy process. I just started on my own weight loss journey and am down 20 pounds...so far (through Weight Watchers). I love, love, love the Healthy Choice fudge bars. Surely hit the spot!
